Head Full of Bees

Artober 2024 - Week 2

I strayed a little from “Shit Comics” in this batch, but whatever keeps my muse happy is fine by me.

Day 8 - Raven Wanderer

Program: Procreate / Brush: Textured Line Art and Chinese Ink Brush by Olguioo

I said to myself, “Man, fuck this guy. Who gave him the right to have an eerie non-corporeal bird monster ability that’s really hard to draw??”

Day 9 - Monster F*ckers

Program: Procreate / Brushes: Various brushes by Olguioo and Manero Brushes

I hesitate to call Tika a monster fucker because she is also kind of a monster, she just hides it better.

Day 10 - “Whoobs”

Me a couple years ago: Man, it’s so hard drawing Whoo’s mom without making her just look like Whoo with boobs.

My friend Ashton: [this comic idea].

Day 11 - My Flavor of Neurodivergence

I can’t help that my flavor of neurodivergence makes me hyperfocus on things that exist almost exclusively in my head. You just had to be there. . .

Day 12 - H̵̫͘e̵̹̲̓̓r̸̨̥̒ ̶̣̜̌͛Ȑ̴̮a̴̜̹̒̚d̶̳́i̷͚͖̐͒a̶̦̖̿n̴̼̘͛̚c̷̘͒e̴̟̯͘

Meet Disa. She is the main villain of my story. She is a being that possesses one of the characters, and my brain hatched an absolutely horrific idea:

Hey. What if one of the characters who sees these creatures differently. . . can also see the possessed character’s screams of utter terror imprinted on the villain’s face? Wouldn’t that be so cool and great?

Don’t we just love horrors beyond our comprehension?

Here’s another version I didn’t like quite as much, but I’m going to count it as a bonus drawing for Day 12:

Day 13 - My Sweet Darling

post image 9

Program: Procreate / Brush: Various brushes by Josh Wayles

Bard beheld a being, large and obscured by darkness, which lowered its head to greet him with a wide black grin that resembled a distorted owl’s beak. Its round golden eyes gleamed bright, manic, and menacing. It told him, in a multiplied voice of no determinate gender, “MY DARLING DEAREST...

The expression he gave it was one of utter and incomprehensible terror. The tiny bird shrank under its enormous, smoldering form, its near non-corporeal being causing his eyes to burn under its brilliance. He could not find it in himself to speak back to it. His knees quaked until, at once, they folded beneath him.

The creature’s lips twitched, eyes shifting. Where one second it seemed delighted, the next it was on the cusp of rage.

Tears formed in his eyes. He put his hands out as if meeting a goddess, and he forced a smile. “What heavenly bird is this?”

I got a little burned out by this point. I’m still not completely satisfied with my horrific bird monster drawings, but I’ll get there eventually.

Day 14 - Scary Monster Man is Nice, Actually

post image 10

Hands-down my favorite trope is the “Big, scary dude who is nice, actually.” My MC with monster bird powers (he’s humanoid when he’s calm) ends up having a “much more human in appearance” child, and yes, he is a lovely father.
